BLOG 4

In the chapter 4 it mainly talked about integrating technology into curriculum to enhance  effectiveness of learning. It introduced 3 teaching notes for teachers: 1.) what to teacher 2.) How to teacher 3.) How to know what students have learned. Effective technology integration must happen across the lesson planning in ways that research shows deepen and enhance the learning process. Particularly, it must support four key components of learning: active engagement, participation in groups, interaction and feedback, and connection to real-world facts.

The thousands of resources of the online world also provide each classroom with more interesting, diverse, and current learning materials. New technology tools for visualizing and modeling, especially in the sciences, offer students many ways to experiment and observe phenomenon and to view results that would  help understanding. Those are just like Dr. Chen showed us different kinds of PowerPoint to illustrate science curriculum. And, when I did observation of a science class, I noticed that learning through projects while equipped with technology tools allows students to be intellectually challenged while providing them with a realistic facts. Through those kinds of curriculum, students could acquire and refine their analysis and problem-solving skills. So they work individually and in teams to find or product information they've found online. I think when most of students were engaged into technology tools based learning, students are more likely to stay engaged and on task, which would benefit for academic studying and behavior performance as well.

Technology also changes the way teachers teach, what I have talked in my last blog, offering educators effective ways to reach different types of learners and assess student understanding through multiple means. When technology is effectively integrated into different academic areas, teachers would facilitate their teaching step by step. Technology helps make teaching and learning more meaningful and fun.

Questions:
1.Do you think there are also some disadvantages of integrating tech into lesson planing?why?
2.What are your good suggestions to prevent these problems?

take away message

Integrating technology with various ways into our classroom, the aim is to help our  students learning through out classes. I have noticed that many technology devices do really help them involve in classroom, sometimes facebook, instagram, and tumblr can take a big role in students' academic learning process, which made me eyes opening,

BLOG: CHAPTER 3 AND CHAPTER 9

Chapter 3 talked mainly talked about student’s active learning which could refer to the idea of teaching approach “student-centered”. By using this approach, teacher is supposed to create more situations for students to participate in minds-on problem solving and thoughtful reflection. As is well known John Dewey is the pioneer of the progressivism theory, and his conception has a very great influence on today’s teaching models. In recent years, I think more and more teachers have moved toward a student-centered approach, because the world is keep changing, students should seek answers through their experiential learning. Since I have experienced “teacher-centered” educational theory through out my complete childhood in China, and some students and teachers believe it is the most effective strategy. However, I know there are many disadvantages under this approach. For a example, it does not allow students to express themselves, ask questions and direct their own learning. I do believe the old saying: “ every coins has two sides”, when I go to observe some student-centered learning classrooms, I also find some problems. The teacher does not deliver instruction to all students at once, some students may miss important facts.

I would like to say the student-centered education never means that teachers do not lecture. It is to create a student-centered learning classroom on the basis of teacher’s instruction. Teacher’s instruction can also be an important part of a course when the student-centered learning is the main theory, so teacher-centered and learner centered teaching can be a series. Students may have questions at the very beginning, but the student centered lesson will make teacher to become a resource for explaining, demonstrating, and clarifying precisely for all aspects to meet each student’s need. The students now can ask, instead of demanding them "listen and learn."

For chapter 9, it presented ways of multimedia technologies, which combined with text, data, voice, pictures, and video. Video is more widely used in today’s classroom to present information from teacher to student. A good video could inspire student’s learning desire. For my personal experience, that was my college English literature professor used many video clips to help students to learn Shakespeare and his works that really helped us to remember partial boring texts, and it became more visually and vividly. Videos could help teacher extend their curriculum beyond the limits of textbook, besides of this, teacher also can pause and rewind to come up with questions or reinforce knowledge from remembering key points. I think there are a lot of multimedia technologies could be used in our classrooms for helping kids to learn knowledge. And I would happy to try to see how my students react with those active learning methods.

Questions:
1.What are the essential elements for teacher to do to facilitate a student-centered classroom?
2.what’s your education philosophy? why do you prefer it?

BLOG2: CHAPTER1 AND CHAPTER2

From reading whole chapter1 and chapter2, the story of Donasha, Max, and Ava gave me a strong impression, because i think most of teacher would have the same problems with them. Most of teacher are familiar with technology, and most of us are early adopters of technology, that made us gained lots of benefits from using it, no matter students or teachers. However, just like the author described Max’s thoughts in the book that students should have limited use of computer and videos, for not becoming so reliant on machines. Ava was telling the truth of difficulties to integrate technology into classroom. It’s deniable that some students know even more about all technology things than teachers do. I remembered in last semester, when I entered a social studies classroom to do observation, I wondered why some students stood in front of the classroom, but gradually I found students helped their teacher to adjust the projector.

Technology has really changed classroom and the way of teaching, working, and communicating. The popularity of coffer shop “ Starbucks” is well known from its delicious coffee, comfortable and convenient chatting surrounding. Lots of people likes to drink there is due to its free wifi, because they create a combination for customers with drinking coffee, chatting, working and even studying. The common of selling coffee and teaching students is using technology by knowing internet is used to serve people when they are drinking coffee, that is just like teachers use technology approaches to teacher students when they are learning.

A good teacher is the one who can be a media to bring the outside world to our classrooms. I want to be more professional to create something new for my students, especially in the field of teaching with technology, which is a very good way to attract students to participate in their curriculum. Beside that, technology creates many good opportunity for teaching and learning. It’s also good for students to control aspects of learning environment. They can use plentiful technology devices to build their own study experience to obtain more knowledge than they got from the traditional ways.

Questions:
1.How to keep a balance when we are by using technology approach and traditional teaching approach?
2.What should teachers be aware of the disadvantages of integrating technology into our curriculum?

personal learning goals

Nowadays, people are more and more rely on the technology based life. Teachers and students have access to valuable resources via the Internet that include software, simulations, spreadsheet, and graphing calculatorsTechnology is a very good tool to make our classes difference.

I remembered that I went to conference last semester, at there I found using smart board is a very useful way to teach mathematics. When I was a child, I was just taught with using blackboard and chalk, which is the oldest and very traditional way to teach children, but the smart board seems comes from another world for me, because it offers various quick and easy transformation of data to make a connection from teacher to students, which made me eyes opening. .

For my past learning experience, I have learned how to create a website, and that website is to help student integrate their learning skills by using it. That made me first time to obtain a technology teaching skill. From my social studies class, I also learn how to integrate Google maps into my teaching. Personally, I dont think I am that kind of person who knows a lot of methods by using technology to excite my children. So in this class, my learning goals is to know more methods to create an interactive engaging class and become a successful teacher in the future.
